  • Deputy Finance Director

    The City of Kentwood is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Deputy Finance Director. Under the direction of the Finance Director, this position is responsible for planning, organizing and administering the activities of the Finance Department, including financial management, record keeping and reporting, and acts as the City’s Risk Manager and Purchasing Agent.

    The Kentwood Finance Department is comprised of six staff members headed by the Finance Director and is responsible for budgeting (operating and capital), accounting (including payroll), auditing, purchasing, investing, financial projections, risk management, debt management, post-employment benefits administration 

    For the current fiscal year, budgeted expenditures totaled approximately $30.8 million for the General Fund and approximately $33.1 million for all other budgeted funds.
     
    Position Summary 
    As the Deputy Finance Director, you will assist in preparation and direction various financial documents, including budgets and audit reports. Some other responsibilities include reviewing documents to ensure accuracy of information and calculations and review supporting documentation to establish conformance with contracts, regulations, and policies.
     
    A primary function of this role will include supervising the City’s purchasing functions. This includes determining City and department needs, developing timelines, coordinating the process and making appropriate purchasing recommendations.

    General Requirements
     
    - Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
    - At least four (4) years of related professional experience in accounting and financial analysis or an equivalent of education and training
    - Must have an understanding of principles and practices of general, governmental and fund accounting
    - Must have knowledge and understanding of applicable laws, codes, and regulations
     
    The ideal candidate is highly organized, has excellent project management, writing, and presentation skills, and is a servant leader.
     
    Classification and Compensation
    The Deputy Finance Director is an exempt, full-time position with a salary range of $61,019 to $85,426, plus generous employer contribution to a 401(a) defined contribution pension plan and excellent benefits.

  • Site Coordinator - ARCH After School Program

    This position will be available in the near future, we are currently accepting applications. 
    Site Coordinator – City of Kentwood: Responsible for providing programmatic and administrative coordination for educational programs for the summer and after school ARCH program.
    Essential Functions:

    • Constructs lesson plans and implements curriculum schedule.
    • Supervises and provides support for students, faculty, and tutors; arranges tutor training sessions.
    • Maintains student records and reports including, but not limited to, daily attendance, EZ reports, and CACFP.
    • Facilitates student recruitment and orientation activities.
    • Ensures participant welfare during all activities.
    • Ensures safety and inclusion of all program participants.
    • Maintains a safe and clean atmosphere and environment; ensures proper maintenance and storage of all supplies and equipment.
    • Communicates with parents of participants as needed in a professional and effective manner.
    • Performs parks and recreation support and customer service activities as required.
    • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
      Requirements:
    • One or more years of experience working with children.
    • Bachelor’s degree in recreation, education, or a related field; AND two years of experience in recreation and/or cultural facility or community program planning and administration; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
    • CPR, First Aid and AED certification upon hire.
    • Valid Michigan Driver’s License
      Starting pay is $18.00 per hour. Site Coordinators work 32-40 hours per week, with some benefits available.

  • Activity Leader - ARCH After School Program

    The City of Kentwood is currently seeking part-time Activity Leaders for the Kentwood public school's after school program (ARCH).  For information on the ARCH after school program, please click: http://www.kentwoodps.org/ourschools/crossroadsalternativeeducation/programsandactivities/archprogram/  

    Activity Leaders are responsible for the following:

    • Assisting with daily program activity planning and implementation;
    • Enforceing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures;
    • Assisting teachers in daily classroom activities;
    • Ensuring participant safety and welfare during all activities;
    • Ensuring inclusion of all program participants; 
    • Maintaining a safe and clean atmosphere and environment; and
    • Communicating with parents of participants as needed in a professional and effective manner
     
     
     
    The starting pay rate is $10.00 per hour.  Activity Leaders work approximately 16 hours per week.

    Qualified applicants will have the following:
    • High school diploma or GED and at least one year of experience working with children in an education, recreation, or similar program or have an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.  
    • Valid driver's license
    • CPR, First Aid and AED certifications within six months of date of employment
