Leaf Dump Operations
(posted: 10/22/07)
The city is once again able to utilize our
Department of Public Works facilities for the leaf dump operation this year.
The leaf dump shares a location with the recycling center outlined in an article
on page 3. The leaf dump is located at 5068 Breton Avenue, east off of
Breton, north of 52nd Street and south of the City Hall. The leaf dump is
in an enclosed area and will be manned with set hours of operation.
Subject to change as we proceed through the Fall, the hours of operation will be
Monday through Saturday, 10 AM until 8 PM. On Sundays the hours of
operation are from 12 noon until 6 PM. The leaf dump will open on
Wednesday, October 3 and close on Thursday, December 13. The recycling
center will also operate with these same hours.
As in the past, the leaf disposal service is
available to Kentwood residents only; personnel will ask to see some proof of
residency to allow the use of the leaf dump. However, any Kent County resident
will be allowed to use the recycling center for disposal of paper, plastic,
metal containers, etc. in accordance with Recycle Center disposal criteria. No
commercial haulers are allowed to dispose of leaves in this area. Leaves must
be removed from all containers and bags when deposited in the area. We have
state authorization for leaves only, so other yard waste such as grass
clippings, tree branches, dead plants, etc. cannot be accepted. It is
recommended to bring leaves on ?off-hours? if possible, as Saturday mornings
seem to be a popular time and you may encounter lines. |
