Crime Prevention Tips

Your car is NOT secure!

Valuables were stolen from more than 330 vehicles in the City of Kentwood during 2010.  Many of these vehicles were parked in shopping center lots.  Others were in neighborhoods and apartment communities.  Police officers recommend the following steps to reduce opportunities for thieves.

  • Lock valuables in the trunk of your car or conceal them from view in a vehicle that does not have a trunk.
  • Remove valuable items such as packages, cell phones, brief cases, and laptop computers from cars during the overnight hours.
  • Keep vehicle doors locked and windows closed.
  • Park in well-lit areas, driveways, or garages.
  • Immediately report all suspicious activity around parking areas to the police or store security personnel.
