Cell Phone Donations

Safe Haven Ministries offers emergency shelter services, counseling, and advocacy programs to victims of domestic abuse. Throughout the community, the program also offers educational workshops on domestic violence.  Safe Haven is a non-profit program with a blended funding base of individual, business, foundation and church support.  Safe Haven has partnered with Shelter Alliance (www.shelteralliance.net), a firm from Miramar, Florida, that specializes in the logistics and underwriting of fundraising programs through the collection and recycling of used cellular phones.  The proceeds from the collection will be applied to Ramoth House, an emergency shelter for abused women and their children, as well as fund other various advocacy and educational programs.  Cell phones and batteries can be dropped off at Safe Haven Ministries, 3501 Lake Eastbrook, Suite 335, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.

Many people are unaware that cell phones without current service can still be used to dial 9-1-1 for an emergency.  The Kentwood Police Department will be accepting unwanted, used cell phones and batteries during normal business hours, 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday.  There is a donation basket for cell phones and batteries located in the lobby of the Kentwood Police Department.  A cell phone donation is tax deductible.

Safe Haven keeps a certain number of tested and charged cell phones available for distribution to victims of domestic violence who have an immediate need.  All other donated cell phones are given to the Shelter Alliance program, through Safe Haven Ministries.
