APPROVED MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE KENTWOOD CITY COMMISSION
HELD APRIL 20, 2010
Commission Chambers

Mayor Richard L. Root called the meeting to order at 7:10 P.M.

Elder Kevin VanderMolen of Princeton Christian Reformed Church gave the invocation.

Boy Scout Troop #331 led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Roll Call: Present: Commissioners: Sharon R. Brinks, Michael W. Brown, Robert Coughlin, Richard Clanton, Frank Cummings, Raymond VerWys and Mayor Richard L. Root.

Staff Present: Fire Chief Jim Carr, Finance Director Tom Chase, Deputy Administrator Rich Houtteman, City Clerk Dan Kasunic, Police Chief Rick Mattice, Community Development Director Terry Schweitzer, Fire Department Administrative Assistant Nancy Shane, City Attorney Jeffrey Sluggett, Public Works Director Ron Woods and Recreation Director Charlie Ziesemer.

Twelve (12) citizens and members of the news media attended the meeting.

Motion by Coughlin, supported by Clanton, to approve the agenda.

Motion Carried.

ACKNOWLEDGE VISITORS AND NON-AGENDA ITEMS:

Lori Wiersma announced her candidacy for State Senate and Commissioner Brinks endorsed her.

CONSENT AGENDA:

Motion by Brinks, supported by Clanton, to approve the Consent Agenda as follows:
A. Receive and file minutes of the Finance Committee Meeting held on April 12, 2010.
B. Resolution 35?10 to set a May 18, 2010 public hearing date to consider an application for an Industrial Facilities Exemption Certificate in the City of Kentwood for Ranir, LLC located at 4701 East Paris Ave., SE: under Act 198.
C. Payables for the City totaling $166,585.53.

Roll Call Vote: Yeas: All. Nays: None. Absent: None.

Motion Carried.
Resolution Adopted.

Motion by Cummings, supported by Coughlin, to approve the minutes of the April 12, 2010 City Commission Meeting.

Motion Carried.

ORDINANCES:

PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE STREET TREE ORDINANCE.
Community Development Director Schweitzer reviewed the process of the Planning Commission prior to bringing to the City Commission.

Motion by Brown, supported by VerWys, to refer the proposed changes to Ordinance Committee for review.

Motion Carried.

COMMENTS OF COMMISSIONERS AND MAYOR:

Commissioner Clanton-Informed the Commission of the EDC Meeting held earlier and of the MML update on sidewalk issues.

Mayor Root-Reminded everyone of Kentwood Pride Day May 1st.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 P.M.

Thanks to Meadow Brook Elementary for their hospitality in hosting our City Commission Meeting this week.  It was great to engage our northeast citizens as well as get to know Principal Shaw and and his staff.  Such great things happening at Meadow Brook Elementary!

May 21st City Commission Meeting | 5/17/2013
The Kentwood City Commission will hold its May 21st 7p meeting at Meadow Brook Elementary at 1450 Forest Hills SE. We are excited to “take our show on the road” and engage our northerly residents!

  • 28th Street Construction

    Resurfacing M-11 from Breton Avenue east to Patterson Avenue, and reconstructing M-11 from Patterson Avenue east to I-96 will take place from March through November of 2013.  Work also includes the addition of a right-turn lane, new sidewalk with ramp upgrades compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, municipal lighting and traffic signal upgrades.
