COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE
November 1, 2011

Present: Chairperson: Mayor Pro-Tem Richard Clanton, Sharon Brinks, Michael W. Brown, Robert Coughlin, Frank Cummings, Ray VerWys and Mayor Richard L. Root. Also: Assistant City Engineer Tim Bradshaw, Finance Director Tom Chase, Deputy Administrator Rich Houtteman, City Clerk Dan Kasunic, City Engineer Steve Kepley, Fire Chief Brent Looman, Assistant Finance Director Lorna Nenciarini, Police Chief Richard Mattice, Community Development Director Terry Schweitzer, Fire Department Administrative Assistant Nancy Shane, Human Resource Director Lisa Sonego, and Public Works Director Ron Woods. Also: Grand Rapids Press Julie Makarewicz.

1. PUBLICLY FUNDED HEALTH INSURANCE CONTRIBUTION ACT- PUBLIC ACT 152 OF 2011.
Mayor Root noted that the State had enacted new legislation, mandating certain options on employees paying for health care. Finance Director Chase, Deputy Administrator Houtteman and Human Resource Director Sonego reviewed the requirements and options available and requested that the City Commission make the formal start date for Medical Plan, July 1st each year. No other action is needed at this time.

Motion by Brinks, seconded by Cummings, to recommend to the City Commission to formally start the Medical Plan on July 1st each year.

Motion Carried.
