MINUTES
CITY OF KENTWOOD
HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
May 18, 2006

Chair Middlewood called the meeting to order at 6:40 p.m.

1. Roll Call:

Members present: Middlewood, Heyboer, Thompson, Pacic, Agostinelli and Boisvenue.
VanDyke absent with excuse.
Other present: Robert Kline, Colleen, Pam Gombert, Amanda Stamnan, Patricia Kissane, and Sarah Gombert

2. Approval of Minutes?Motion by Pacic, supported by Agostinelli to approve the minutes of April 20, 2006, with minor corrections. Motion carried.

3. Project Reports:

a. The Pine Hill Cemetery project was moved up the agenda. The Girl Scout troop presented an overview and progress report of the Cemetery Project. They provided information on how note cards are developed for each grave along with photographic documentation.

The Commission thanked the troop for their work. Pacic indicated that the Cemetery Project may be a good feature for WKTV.

b. Barn Survey: Gombert indicated that the barn survey project has not yet been approved as a valid project for the scout troop and therefore not much work has been done on that.

c. Oral history: Middlewood reported on the recently completed oral histories. Thompson indicated that she has already scheduled oral history interviews with Peter Lachniet and Mary Smith Hale (Bernie Smith?s sister).

Following this there was some discussion on John Osterhouse?s home south of the Shell Gas station on 44th Street and Kalamazoo. It was mentioned that Mr. Oosterhouse could be good oral history subject. Also, the Commission suggested that photos be taken of the interior and exterior of the building.

d. Heritage Room: Middlewood provided a brief update on the new additions to the Heritage Room.

4. Public Awareness


a. Brochure for historic points of interest ? The brochure is all set for publication. Prestige Printing would be doing the print job.

b. The Kentwood History Presentation: Middlewood reported that Boisvenue is still awaiting the CD with the pictures from Kate Prior. Boisvenue and Kline indicated that they would get in touch with Prior.

c. Family Album workshop: Middlewood went over the format and the presenters for the workshop. She also invited everyone to attend the workshop. Agostinelli would be in charge of arranging for the refreshments.

5. Local Authors? Night: The date for the Local Authors? Night has been revised: it would be on September 30, a Saturday. The Story of Kentwood book would be on sale.

7. Other business/Comments: No other business.

8. Next Meeting? The next meeting will be September 14, 2006, at 6:30 PM.


There being no further business before the Commission, a motion was made by Pacic supported by Boisvenue to adjourn

The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
