SAFETY COMMITTEE
February 15, 2011

6:00 P.M.
Present: Commissioners: Acting Chairperson, Michael W. Brown, Sharon Brinks, Richard Clanton, Robert Coughlin, Ray VerWys and Mayor Richard L. Root. Absent: Frank Cummings. Also present: Fire Chief James Carr, Deputy Police Chief Tom Hillen, Deputy Administrator Rich Houtteman, City Clerk Dan Kasunic, Deputy Fire Chief Brent Looman, Police Chief Richard Mattice, and Fire Department Administrative Assistant Nancy Shane. Also Present: Fifth Third representative Brenda Velding, Chemical Bank representative Marcus Jones and Grand Rapids Press Julie Makarewicz.
1. RELEASE OBJECTION TO LIQUOR LICENSE FOR SAM’S BISTRO.
City Clerk Kasunic reviewed the history of the objection to the renewal of the liquor license and the request by the Liquor Control Commission to remove the objection to reflect a clear delineation of ownership.
Motion by Coughlin, seconded by Root, to recommend to the City Commission to Release the Objection to the Renewal of the Class C Liquor License for Sam’s Bistro located at 1950 44th Street, SE.
Motion Carried.
2. TRANSFER OF LIQUOR LICENSE FROM SCOOTER’S TO CHEMICAL BANK.
Representing Chemical Bank Attorney Jones answered questions of the Committee, but was unable to answer questions pertaining to taxes owed or paid by Scooter’s.
Motion by Commissioner VerWys, seconded by Coughlin, to recommend to the City Commission to approve the transfer of a Class C Liquor License from Scooter’s Restaurant located at 3097-3099 Broadmoor, SE to Chemical Bank.
Motion Carried.
3. INFORMATION ONLY-RECOMMEND TO RECEIVE AND FILE THE POLICE DEPARTMENT MONTHLY ACTIVITY REPORT.
Police Chief Mattice reviewed the January Statistical Report.
Motion by Coughlin, seconded by VerWys, to recommended to receive and file the Police Department Monthly Activity Report for January 2011.
Motion Carried.
4. INFORMATION ONLY-RECOMMEND TO RECEIVE AND FILE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT MONTHLY ACTIVITY REPORTS.
Fire Chief Carr reviewed the Monthly Activity Report.
Receive and file the Fire Department Monthly Activity Report for January 2011.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:20 P.M.
