SAFETY COMMITTEE
November 22, 2010

Present: Commissioners: Chairperson Frank Cummings, Sharon Brinks, Michael W. Brown, Robert Coughlin, Ray VerWys and Mayor Richard L. Root. Also present: Fire Chief James Carr, Police Deputy Chief Tom Hillen, Deputy Administrator Rich Houtteman, City Clerk Dan Kasunic, Fire Department Administrative Assistant Nancy Shane, Assistant Finance Director Phil Tietz, Public Works Director Ron Woods and Parks & Recreation Director Charlie Ziesemer.
1. OTTAWA COUNTY HAZMAT MUTUAL AID AGREEMENT.
Fire Chief Carr informed the Committee that this has been discussed with all organizations concerned for longer than a year and this is to address a response at a regional level. He stated legal counsel has reviewed it and have addressed risk management concerns.
Motion by Commissioner Brown, supported by Coughlin, to recommend to the City Commission to approve the Ottawa County Hazmat Mutual Aid Agreement.
Motion Carried.
2. INFORMATION ONLY-HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN.
Administrative Assistant Shane reminded the Committee that the City had transferred the emergency operations to the County and informed the Committee that last month the Hazard Mitigation Plan was approved by the State; however was not approved by FEMA. The City, Kent County and the State of Michigan verified the requirements with FEMA and after the County adopts a resolution then FEMA should approve the plan. This is information only and no action is required.
3. INFORMATION ONLY-RECOMMEND TO RECEIVE AND FILE THE POLICE DEPARTMENT MONTHLY ACTIVITY REPORT.
Deputy Police Chief Hillen reviewed the Monthly Statistical Report.
Motion by Coughlin, supported by VerWys, to recommended to receive and file the Police Department Monthly Statistical Report for October 2010.
Motion Carried.
4. INFORMATION ONLY-RECOMMEND TO RECEIVE AND FILE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT MONTHLY ACTIVITY REPORTS.
Fire Chief Carr reviewed the Monthly Activity Report. Chief Carr noted there are currently three Fire Fighters off due to injuries
Motion by Brown, supported by VerWys, to recommend to receive and file the Fire Department Monthly Activity Report for October 2010.
Motion Carried.
