SAFETY COMMITTEE
September 20, 2010

6:15 P.M.
Present: Commissioners: Chairperson Frank Cummings, Michael W. Brown, Robert Coughlin, Ray VerWys and Mayor Richard L. Root. Also present: Deputy Administrator Rich Houtteman, City Clerk Dan Kasunic, Police Chief Richard Mattice, Deputy Fire Chief Brent Looman, Fire Department Administrative Assistant Nancy Shane and Public Works Director Ron Woods.
1. KENTWOOD AMENDMENT TO THE KENT COUNTY HAZARDOUS MITIGATION PLAN AND ADOPTION OF THE KENT COUNTY PLAN.
Fire Department Administrative Assistant Shane spoke of the transition using the County plan and because the City did not participate in the development of the County Plan the City needed to meet the County requirements.
Motion by VerWys, supported by Brown, to recommend to the City Commission to approve the resolution accepting the Kent County Hazardous Mitigation Plan.
Motion Carried.
2. GRAND RAPIDS FIRE DISPATCH AGREEMENT.
Fire Department Administrative Assistant Shane requested approval of the agreement until December 31, 2010. A brief discussion ensued.
Motion by Commissioner Coughlin, supported by Brown, to recommend to the City Commission to authorize the Mayor to sign an agreement with the City of Grand Rapids for Fire Dispatch services through December 31, 2010 at a cost of $53,874.95.
Motion Carried.
3. INFORMATION ONLY-RECOMMEND TO RECEIVE AND FILE THE POLICE DEPARTMENT YEAR END REPORT.
Police Chief Mattice reviewed 2009 year end Statistical Report.
Motion by Brown, supported by VerWys, to recommended to receive and file the Police Department Year End Report for 2009.
4. INFORMATION ONLY-RECOMMEND TO RECEIVE AND FILE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT MONTHLY ACTIVITY REPORTS.
Fire Department Administrative Assistant Shane reviewed the Monthly Activity Report.
Motion by Brown, supported by Coughlin, to recommend to receive and file the Fire Department Monthly Activity Report for August 2010.
