Members absent: Agostinelli and Pacic with notification
Others present: Bob McDonald, Robert Kline

2. Approval of Minutes

Motion by Heyboer supported by VanDyke to approve the minutes of December 16 with corrections as presented.

3. Project Reports:

a. Oral History: Thompson indicated that the oral history for James Vandercode has been completed. Bob Hendriksen?s transcript would be delivered soon. Staff indicated that Mr. Hendriksen has asked for a copy of the Story of Kentwood book. Thompson would pick up the book on Monday for taking it to Mr. Hendriksen.

Staff mentioned that our new transcriptionist, Demeris Brunner have received several tapes. Therefore the Commission is expected to have more completed oral histories in the near future.

It was brought to the attention of the Commission that there may be some benefit in interviewing Paris #8 school alumni in the area. Mr. Kline indicated that he knows a couple, 1932 and 1934 graduates of the Godwin Heights School, who may be interested in doing oral histories.
Middlewood indicated that one of the Girls Scouts group may be interested in doing some oral histories. However they may need some training to do the same.

Heritage Room: The library has donated an 1855-plat book and a book on the Brake family of Kentwood.

b. Barn Survey: Girls Scouts would be contacting Dale to work on the Barn Survey.

c. Pine Hill Cemetery? The Girls Scouts started their work on the project. They have prepared 3x5 cards for each of the grave sites and plan on transferring them to a database. They are planning on taking pictures of the sites as well.

d. Website: Staff noted that starting this year, the agendas and the minutes would be posted online as they are prepared. Besides the website needed to be evaluated to see possible additions, deletions or corrections.

4. Letters of Appreciation? The letters of appreciation for Tom Henry and the Kentwood Women?s Club still needed to be signed by two of the Commission members.

5. Publicity:

Brochure for historic points of interest: Map of Kentwood showing the points of interest still needs to be put together. No work has been done since the last meeting.

Open house: Agostinelli was not present for updates. Boisvenue mentioned that he had several slides which, if scanned, could be useful for a PowerPoint presentation. Mr. Kline said that he had a slide scanner and would be able to scan those slides for Boisvenue. Boisvenue further mentioned that he was planning on preparing two presentations: a small 15 minute presentation for the open house and later another 50 minutes to an hour-long presentation

6. Commissioner?s Comments/Other Business:

The East Kentwood High School year book has been received and added to the year book collection of the Heritage Room.

Staff indicated that there is a possibility that an intern may be available to work on the Historic Preservation issues.

7. Next Meeting: The next meeting was scheduled for February 17, 2005, at 6:30.

8. There being no further business before the Commission, a motion was made by Boisvenue, supported by Thompson, to adjourn. The motion carried.
