Jurisdiction
Criminal in general
The 62-B District Court has jurisdiction over all misdemeanors committed in the City of Kentwood by anyone 17 years old or older.
The 62-B District Court has jurisdiction to conduct a preliminary examination to establish probable cause that a felony was committed and probable cause to believe that the defendant committed the felony over all felonies committed by anyone 17 years old or older.
Civil in general
The 62-B District Court has jurisdiction over civil cases with damages up to $25,000.
The 62-B District Court has jurisdiction over summary proceedings for evictions in landlord tenant, land contract forfeitures, and evictions after the redemption period has ended after a mortgage foreclosure.
The 62-B District Court has jurisdiction over all Small Claims cases up to $3,000. Attorneys are not allowed to represent anyone in Small Claims Court, there are no appeals from Small Claims Court, and there are no jury trials.
Traffic in general
The 62-B District Court has jurisdiction over traffic civil infractions committed in the City of Kentwood regardless of the offender's age.
The 62-B District Court has jurisdiction over municipal civil infractions.
