CITY OF KENTWOOD HAZARD MITIGATION SURVEY QUESTIONNAIRE
The City of Kentwood is seeking public input regarding an update to the
City?s Hazard Mitigation Plan for preparation of a supplement to the
greater Grand Rapids area?s hazard mitigation plan.
Hazard Mitigation Plans detail the risks facing the community and ways
to reduce or prevent exposure and damage should a hazardous event occur.
In 2005 the City of Kentwood adopted, and the Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA) approved, a Hazard Mitigation Plan for the City
as required by the Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000.
The plan must be reviewed/updated every five years to retain
eligibility for federal hazard mitigation funds.
In early 2010 the City of Kentwood terminated its independent emergency
management program and agreed to participate in the Kent County program.
Because Kentwood did not participate in the planning process of
the regional Kent County, Ottawa County, and City of Grand Rapids Hazard
Mitigation Plan, the regional plan must be amended to include a Kentwood
supplement?updated to reflect any changes that have occurred in the past
five years. There are very
specific federal requirements that must be met for this process.
To identify and plan for future disasters, we need your input on the
following survey questionnaire.
Your responses will help us identify and evaluate hazards and
vulnerabilities facing the area and assist in coordination of activities
to reduce the risk of injury or property damage.
Responses and comments will be accepted through July 31, 2010.
A planning team that includes Kentwood officials will meet to evaluate
responses and prepare a supplement to the regional plan.
