The primary purpose of the 62B District Court Probation Department is to supervise misdemeanant offenders while in the community and to prepare background investigations or Pre-sentence Investigation Reports for the court. The probation department staff consists of a Probation Services Director, three Probation Officers, one who is fluent in Spanish, and one Secretary.
To aid the probation officers in supervision of offenders the officers make use of the electronic tether with or without alcohol verifier, drug screening supplies, vehicle immobilization and the language line to assist with non English speaking clients. Although, the office is licensed to perform substance abuse screenings and assessments, most are out sourced.
Both the court and the probation department believe that every person can be a better person or improve their lot in life, if they truly want to. To achieve that end, the department relies heavily on the abundance of community resources that exist in greater Grand Rapids area.
